FAA Spokesperson: Plane Crash into Austin Office Building ‘A Criminal Act’

At around 9:30 a.m., a plane crashed into an Austin, Texas, building that houses federal offices, sending at least two people to the hospital and caused an explosion that witnesses described as a "fire ball."

According to CNN, a federal law enforcement official has confirmed the name Joseph Andrew Stack and said he owned a house that was burned Thursday. Asked whether Stack set the fire, the official replied, "It appears that way." CNN also was able to obtain a six-page suicide note left by Stack, which ripped the Internal Revenue Service.

The Internal Revenue Service has offices in the building, including its civil enforcement and criminal investigations divisions.

The official said the plane was a Piper and that officials believe Stack owned it.

A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said the crash was “apparently a criminal act.”
