CareFusion Shipping Ventilators to CDC for National Emergency Preparedness
CareFusion, a leading, global medical device company, announced it is
shipping more than 3,900 CareFusion LTVĀ® 1200 ventilators ordered by
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to be included in
the strategic national stockpile.
The CDC ordered a total of 4,500 LTVĀ® 1200 ventilators for the strategic
national stockpile, which is the nation's reserve of medical products
used in the event local supplies are depleted during a severe public
health emergency, such as an earthquake, terrorist attack or influenza
outbreak.
"Years of research and clinical input have gone into the development of the LTV
1200 to create a portable, easy-to-use ventilator that can adapt to a
wide variety of circumstances," said David Schlotterbeck, chairman and
CEO of CareFusion. "This is our largest order ever for this product and
we are pleased to assist the CDC in the event of a national emergency."
CareFusion also previously supplied the State of California and the State of New
York with LTV 1200 ventilators as part of their emergency preparedness
programs.
The CDC and American Association of Respiratory Care have partnered to offer a
webcast training module to show doctors and first responders how to
best use the LTV 1200 in an emergency. The webcast also provides
information on how to use the ventilator for patients with serious
breathing problems caused by the H1N1 influenza virus. The webcast is
