Goold Health Systems Accelerates Backups Using Arkeia Network Backup

Arkeia Software, a leading provider of Linux-based backup solutions, announced that Goold Health Systems, a national health care management company, has deployed Arkeia Network Backup. Using Arkeia to backup their Linux platforms in their corporate datacenter, Goold has realized dramatic improvements in backup performance and in backup administration.

Goold Health Systems is a recognized leader in Medicaid health care management and specializes in pharmacy benefit services, clinical services, and secure data and storage services. Because of rapid growth in the number of customers and the volume of health care data, Goold required an enterprise-scale backup solution that could protect millions of files across more than fifty heterogeneous servers.

Arkeia Network Backup software is in production at Goold and has delivered results including:

  • Reduction by 80% in the time required for backups, allowing Goold to meet their backup window every time.
  • Reducing administrator time required to schedule backups with key features such as a graphical web-based interface for inclusion and exclusion filters.
  • Raising the level of confidence in correct backup execution with native support for Linux and open source systems, including Red Hat, Fedora, CentOS, and MySQL.

"Arkeia Network Backup is fast, very fast," said Brian Butterfield, Linux System Administrator at Goold Health Systems. "We have seen dramatic performance improvements over our former solution, and Arkeia has handled our Linux infrastructure flawlessly. What's more, the support and service organization has been terrific."

Goold deploys Arkeia Network Backup agents for Linux servers as well as specialized agents for MySQL databases. Additionally, Goold uses Arkeia's virtual tape library (VTL) software for backup-to-disk and Arkeia's automated disk-to-disk-to-tape features to support tape archiving to a four-drive LTO-4 tape library.

"Goold's long experience with alternative backup solutions gave them first-hand insight into the poor performance of first-generation network backup solutions," said Sam Brown, director of worldwide support and services at Arkeia Software. "Arkeia's products are designed to work in high throughput environments that take advantage of Linux and open source technologies like Goold. Exceeding expectations of customers, like Goold Health Systems, has been an important part of Arkeia's ongoing success."
