The Internet and social media have played a major role in recruitment and radicalization strategies for terrorist groups. In addition to allowing terrorists to more efficiently propagate their materials to a wider audience, the Internet has allowed these Middle East-based terror groups to blossom into a massive international movement. Fortunately for law enforcement, the obsession with online posting has led to a number of foiled plots and arrests.

This session will delve into how extremists use the Internet to guarantee the survival of their ideology, engage their followers and spread fear to those they are targeting. It will also explore the online behavior of individuals before they carried out a terror attack or were arrested on terrorism charges.
